Minneapolis, MN, January 05, 2009 -- The innovative use of Oracle Business Intelligence was recently detailed in a SearchOracle.com article. Kaleida used their Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) dashboard technology for analyzing emergency room visits where people arrived at a clinic with flu-like symptoms, tracking various metrics that included what time of day or night the visit took place. With this information, Kaleida was able to effectively calculate when a spike may occur so they could start diverting patients with flu-like symptoms to another clinic, minimizing the possibility of flu patients infecting others in a crowded waiting room. Dan Gerena, Director of Business Intelligence and Corporate Analytics at Kaleida Health, details the strategy behind the reporting solution within the SearchOracle.com article. “We needed a way to track how many employees were calling in sick with flu-like symptoms to determine if there were any areas where people were transmitting it to each other and if that would result in a shortage of nurses to deploy,” said Gerena. “Constructing the Flu Monitoring Dashboard was made simple by the OBIEE dashboard technology .” Kaleida transitioned to OBIEE from Oracle’s Discoverer product, which Gerena says could have produced a comparable dashboard but would not have been as easy to use.
